This exhibition is an opportunity to view the photographs made by Gabor Szilasi in Budapest before 1956 as
well as his portraits of people, interiors and vernacular architecture of his adopted home of Quebec.
He started photographing in Hungary and the fundamental characteristic of his work are already recognizable
in these early images.
The photographs examine peoples’ relationships to their environment. Szilasi presents people in their
personal context through his own deep sense of humanism woven through with his underlying sense of humour.
For Szilasi the formal qualities are equally as important as documentary values.
